Siemens

Siemens is a full-line electrical engineering and electronics company headquartered in Berlin and Munich.  They have been in the hearing business since 1878, when Werner von Siemens developed the Phonophor hearing instrument.

Siemens has a full line of hearing aids, which includes the Acuris, the Triano, Prisma 2 and Phoenix Pro.

Siemens Acura

Siemens Acura offers the breakthrough E2E wireless technology, in which a pair of hearing aids "not only communicate with each other, but actually function as one holistic system making the true potential of binaural amplification a reality." With this system, Siemens says,
  • Both instruments share information about the listening environment and automatically adjust in unison for optimum speech understanding, localization, and enjoyment of music.
  • Both instruments switch jointly between appropriate microphone modes (omnidirectional and directional) automatically and simultaneously. This allows the wearer to either pick up sounds from all directions (omnidirectional) or to focus primarily on speech coming from the front (directional).
  • Both instruments enhance speech and reduce noise in a synchronized manner as needed based upon the listening environment. For optimal hearing from both ears, in all listening situations - automatically.

Also available with the Acura is the ePocket™ , a bi-directional remote control with a readout function that offers volume and program selection as well as offering a visual status of the volume setting, listening program and battery. This is particularly useful for caregivers who need to monitor someone else's hearing aids.
Siemens Triano

The Siemens Triano hearing instrument family offers everything from a micro completely in the canal to several larger behind the ear models. Each of these models offers several technologies designed to make the hearing aid experience better.

The Speech Comfort System is a 16 channel circuit that automatically identifies the hearing situation and adjusts the amplification accordingly. Twin and TriMic systems use multiple microphones to further identify the desired sounds. Soft fading technology means that the hearing aid will change programs to fit the situation without the wearer noticing the change.

Another neat feature is the wind noise reduction program, which automatically adjusts when necessary.

My current hearing aid is a 20 year old Siemens in the ear model. It has proven to be highly durable and a real workhorse. I can't believe that it has stood up to the kind of abuse that I have dished out.

The new Siemens are really neat. One feature that I am especially enamored of is the the wind reduction program. If there's any kind of wind, I have to take my current hearing aid out. The amplified wind noise is simply too much to take. As a result, I often do not wear it out of doors.
